“Have you ever had a dream that you could do anything?”

In this fusion drag and dance performance, emerging drag personas take over the stage, forge connections, share stories of identity, queerness and community. They transcend dreaming, ultimately transforming the stage into a space of freedom – a queer Utopia.

Dancing our Queer Utopia combines the arts of drag and movement and was aimed at FLINTA* folks who wanted to develop a drag persona through physical expression. Through a series of workshops, based on movement, improvisation and character development techniques, the group created choreographies while seeking to answer the question: “What does our queer utopia look like?”

A group identity was developed, by the participants, that created a common physical language. The project is coming to an end with a performance made by the participants themselves.

A team of queer FLINTA* folks with a professional background in choreography, drag performance, stage make-up, costume and stage design accompanied the group. They offered guidance to the participants during their journey of creative exploration, self-expression and the development of their drag persona.
