About
I am Maria Karamoutsiou (they/them), performer, mover, music artist and educator. In my works as director or performer
I explore themes such as identity, belonging and gender.
I focus on the relationship between body and (public) space, as well as the question of representation and suppression of the human body.
My performative experiments include sound, voice, movement and use methods of biographical and devised theater as well as research. I often collaborate with people who see themselves as part of a community, so we can negotiate socio-political issues in a personal way.

One of my main goals is to create a space for transformative experiences for both the performers and the audience. The performative process for me is one of learning, empowerment, and vulnerability that embraces the unexpected, the unknown, as well as individuality, thereby creating and celebrating community.
Since 2021 I perform as Drag King Alexander the Dick in the Berlin scene and carry out various projects for and with the FLINTA* community. 2023 I started the drag & dance performance community project Dancing our queer Utopia. Under public funding the project will go on till 2026 giving the opportunity to new performers to exlore their drag persona, creating a sustainable community.
