I am Maria Karamoutsiou (no pronouns/they), performer, mover, music artist and educator. In my works as director or performer I explore themes such as identity, belonging and gender. I focus on the relationship between body and (public) space, as well as the question of representation and suppression of the human body. My performative experiments include sound, voice, movement and use methods of biographical and devised theater as well as research. I often collaborate with people who see themselves as part of a community, so we can negotiate socio-political issues in a personal way.
One of my main goals is to create a space for transformative experiences for both the performers and the audience. The performative process for me is one of learning, empowerment, and vulnerability that embraces the unexpected, the unknown, as well as individuality, thereby creating and celebrating community.
Since 2022 I cooperate with the intersectional feminist association InterFem Collective e.V. and carry out various projects for and with the FLINTA* community.
